Savoir for housing co-ops

Your members live in what they own together, and the rules that concern them fit in a few documents. Savoir reads them and answers, naming the article.

What a co-op lives with

Three things heard at committee meetings.

  • Who repairs what
The tap, the window, the floor. The answer is in the internal by-laws, and it is asked for again every month.
  • A new member arrives with twenty questions
Selection, participation hours, fees, maintenance. All of it is in the handbook, handed over once and put away.
  • Committees that run on volunteer hours
Time spent repeating a rule is time not spent on the building and on the life of the co-op.

What Savoir does about it

Your documents, read by the assistant and cited in every answer.

  • A cited answer, out of your own documents
Every answer names the document and the article it came from. When nothing answers, the assistant says so.
  • A new member serves themselves
The member handbook and the internal by-laws answer in your place, in the language they chose, from the first evening.
  • What is missing comes back to the committee
Questions left unanswered arrive in a review queue. The answer written once is used the next time.

A member’s question, between two committees

What a member sees without waiting for the next meeting.

An example answer
  1. You

Who pays for repairing a leaking tap in my unit?

  2. Assistant

The co-op does. The internal by-laws put the maintenance of the unit’s plumbing on the co-op, except where the damage comes from the member’s own negligence. The member handbook asks that the leak be reported to the maintenance committee as soon as it is noticed, on the form posted on the notice board. A repair carried out without notice is not reimbursed.

    • Internal by-laws, section 12
    • Member handbook, section 3

What it costs a co-op

Four plans, by the number of registered members. Neither the number of units nor the number of documents counts. The trial asks for no card.
