Why Savoir exists

A board answers the same questions every month, while the answers are already written down in its own documents. Savoir is what makes them readable.

What a board lives with today

None of it is for want of goodwill: it is volunteer work, repeated, that nobody has the time to do twice.

  • The same twelve questions
Co-owners ask the same questions every month: the contingency fund, pets, noise, the works. The answer already exists, somewhere.
  • Two hundred pages as an attachment
A member is handed the declaration of co-ownership as a PDF and wished good luck. Nobody reads past page three.
  • Evenings spent answering by hand
The board answers in the evening, by e-mail, some forty times a year, looking the article up itself every time.

What Savoir does with it

The community’s own documents do the answering, and they name what they stood on.

  • Cited, or nothing
Every answer names the document and the section it came from. An answer with no source is not shown.
  • It says when it does not know
When the documents do not answer, Savoir says so and passes the question to the board instead of guessing.
  • The Civil Code, kept apart
In Québec the Civil Code’s articles are cited in a group of their own, under the legal-information notice. They are never mixed into the building’s own documents.
  • In both languages
Every screen and every e-mail exists in French and in English. A member reads in the language they chose.
  • Live in one evening
A volunteer board uploads its documents, invites its members and sees the first answers the same evening.

Who builds Savoir

Better said plainly: this product is built by one person, and its pace follows from that.

  • One person
Savoir is designed, written and supported by one person, in Québec, for the communities here first and elsewhere after.
  • Phases, not dates
Features arrive in the plan’s order, and no delivery date is promised to anybody.
  • The first paying community
The milestone is neither a funding round nor a launch: it is the first community that pays because the product is useful to it.
  • Built on a platform
Savoir is an application generated by the platform that deploys it and receives its crash reports.
